The Royals Sports Group has announced the official name of their newest T20 franchise, the ‘Paarl Royals’, who are set to play in Cricket South Africa’s upcoming flagship T20 tournament in 2023. This will be the third cricket franchise from the Royals Sports Group, after Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and Barbados Royals in the CPL.
This investment enables us to further scout and develop world-class talent, grow our fanbase by bringing more fans into the Royals family and help extend the reach of the IPL too, in line with our core purpose of ‘Transforming Society through Sport, Transforming Sport through innovation’. The Paarl Royals will be based out of Paarl, a city in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Equipped with the best operational and logistical facilities, the Boland Park Cricket Stadium in Paarl will be the team’s home ground during the tournament that is slated to kick off early next year.
The franchise also announced its first four signings for the season - Jos Buttler, David Miller, Obed McCoy and Corbin Bosch - all of whom will be playing for their third Royals franchise after Rajasthan Royals and Barbados Royals. Jos had a record-breaking IPL season, where he finished as the leading run-getter of the tournament. As for Obed, his heroics in the second half of the IPL powered the Royals to some crucial wins going into the playoff stage, and he continues to impress with his skills for the West Indies. Corbin, who came in as a replacement for the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile, continues his journey in the Royals family.
Paarl Royals also marks the return of David Miller, who played for Rajasthan Royals for two seasons and has now been named skipper of Barbados Royals for CPL 2022. Follow the Paarl Royals on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and stay updated with all the latest happenings!
